    Yes midnight commander on linux systems is relying on curses/ncurses library.

    Depending on what terminal being used to access the system and its specific settings the ctrl keys and alt key sequenes often don't work the same. Even the window curses paints may not look the same through different terminal programs. I've also found sometimes when connecting to a remote system that system may not recieve your terminal settings (vt100, vt102), for the TERM variable.
